IWISS F1807 PEX Pipe Crimping Tool Kit

Best PEX Crimping Tool Review | 2018 Top 5

You need a crimp tool but not sure which one is the best PEX crimping tool. Or, maybe you’re not sure which PEX tool features you should look for. Either way, today you will learn all about the best PEX crimp tools available so you can decide which one is right for you. Let’s get started with the best PEX crimping tool review.

Watch this short video to get an idea of some of the different types available.

You don’t have to be a plumber to benefit from owning a PEX crimping tool. You may be someone who is building your own home and wants to do your own plumbing to save on cost. Or, you may be a “do it yourself” landlord who owns one or several properties and know that owning this tool will save you several times over.

PEX crimping tools (also know as a PEX pipe pressing tool) are generally used to crimp either stainless steel cinch rings or copper rings and the tool used for each type ring is different. Mostly, what we are reviewing today are crimping tools for copper type rings. These crimp rings are fitted over the plastic PEX line which is slid over a brass fitting then crimped to make a water tight seal.

Why should you use PEX pipe instead of other forms of plumbing? PEX pipe comes in 100 feet rolls and is cheaper overall to install. Besides being cheaper, it is also faster and easier to install and uses less fittings. Another reason I like PEX pipe is how clean it is, you won’t have to worry about messy cleaners and glue, nor will you have to worry about using pipe wrenches or sweating copper lines.

PEX pipe also has the unique ability to flex in case your water lines freeze. As you know frozen water expands inside water pipes and when this happens, PVC, Copper and Galvanized pipes often burst. Not so with PEX so they say, and so far I have not had any issues with burst PEX lines which is a major benefit to me as a landlord with several rentals.

Purchasing a good PEX tool is a bit expensive but because of the overall savings, both now and in the future, makes buying this tool a “no brainer.”

Best PEX Crimping Tool Review

So, let’s review what we just learned in the video above about what types of PEX crimp tools are available;

  1. Crimping tools are sized from 3/8 inch to 1 inch in size.
  2. Crimping tools are also available in combination sizes
  3. The most popular combination Crimping tools are 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch
  4. You can also purchase Professional PEX Crimp tool kits with interchangeable jaw sizes
  5. You can also get an angle headed crimp tool for hard to reach places.

Now that you know basically what’s available, let’s get started reviewing the best PEX crimping tools.

I have arranged all the tools from the highest rated to the lowest. Keep in mind that even the lowest rated tool here still has a very good rating. This list is simply the best of the best PEX crimping tools chosen from actual customer reviews of the products.

Overall Customer Rating

The IWISS F1807 Long Kit enjoys a healthy 4.7 out of 5 star rating. At the time of this review the tool did not have any customer rating lower than a 4 star.  Most customers were very pleased with the ease of use.

Two minor complaints were that the included pipe cutter did not cut straight and that the crimp tool, though easy to use, did not fit well in tight spaces. If you need a tool that fits in tight spaces better, perhaps the next tool in our review might be better suited for your needs.

  5.  Question:  Does the tool work with Sharkbite copper crimp rings?
    1. Answer: Yes it does.

Overall Customer Rating

The Zurn PEX crimping tool set enjoys a solid 4.5 our of 5 star rating.  I like the fact that this kit comes with a crimp ring removal tool. Fittings are expensive, so if your ring does not crimp properly, you just remove it with the tool and no need to replace the fitting.

I really didn’t pick up on any common complaints about this crimping tool kit. The only down side for me is that for being a universal tool it does not handle the 1″ copper ring.

In Conclusion

I believe using PEX line is the best way to go for the “do it yourself” person. As a landlord this system as been a Godsend. I don’t have to worry about trying to get a good glue seal of PVC, nor do I have to worry about the pipe becoming brittle over time. PVC is easy to freeze and bust, but not PEX.

Also, I don’t have to sweat copper fittings and worry about the copper swelling and bursting after a hard freeze. Not to mention the expense of copper pipe and fittings.

PEX pipe really is a good choice for “do it yourself” plumbers every any skill level. And above we have covered some the best PEX crimping tools currently available.
