When I first started in the rental property business, I didn’t really understand how to properly expose my rental to the market. Through experience, I’ve learned how to advertise and which forms of advertising gives you the most bang for your buck.

I started buying rental properties in 1997 after reading a book written by Russ Whitney titled Rags to Riches. After I finished reading the book I said to myself, “I can do this.”
I put the book down and began immediately. Luckily, it was a short read so it did not get me bogged down into analysis paralysis, otherwise I may have given up before I started.
Eventually, I bought several rental properties and started a property management company in our small community. And, I’m still in the rental property business today.
WHY I WANT TO HELP OTHER LANDLORDS
Mostly, the houses I own are properties built in the 1930’s. As you can imagine, these properties were built with what is now old out dated and worn out materials. Fortunately, the bones of the houses were usually solid so I had a good foundation to build upon.
Unfortunately, the Income from the properties was not enough to hire all the work done. So, I had to do most of the work myself. But, through experience I learned! Oh, I got some pointers from some of the old timers in the rental business, but it was mostly by trial and error.
Boy, I can’t count the number of times that I have sought for the answer about how to headache proof my rental property and my life. Sadly, not much could be easily found in one place.
Surely, this site would have come in handy early on in my career. So, I thought it would be a good place to share my experiences and learn from others in a community of like minded individuals.
HEADACHE PROOF LANDLORDING
Reportedly, the number one reason people don’t want to own rental properties are the headaches. But, I’ve discovered that the problems that cause the most headaches are the ones you don’t know the answer to.
Along the way, I want to share with you the answers I found and how I headache proof my life by implementing what I call “Stress Busters”. So, many of my posts will focus around this one point… Busting Stress!
